Jaipur to Kashmir Distance: Road, Train, Flight and Bus Complete Guide (2026)
One day you are standing in 42 degree heat somewhere in Jaipur, squinting at your phone. Next you could be sitting inside a wooden houseboat on Dal Lake, watching mist roll off the water at 7 in the morning with a cup of kahwa in your hand.
That is what this journey does to you.
But before any of that happens, you need to figure out the basics. How far is Kashmir from Jaipur? Which route actually makes sense for your time and budget? Do you fly or drive or take the train? How many days do you even need?
This guide answers all of it. Distances, travel times, routes, costs and itinerary options based on how many days you have. Read it once and your planning is sorted.

Quick clarification before we go further. When travelers say Kashmir they almost always mean Srinagar, the valley's main city. Every distance figure in this guide points to Srinagar unless mentioned otherwise.
The Actual Distance from Jaipur to Kashmir
The straight line aerial distance between Jaipur and Srinagar sits at roughly 1,050 km. On road that number grows to somewhere between 1,120 and 1,200 km depending on the route you take.
The route itself is quite a journey. You leave Rajasthan, cut through Haryana and Punjab, enter the foothills and then the mountains and finally drop down into the Kashmir Valley. Four different landscapes in one trip. That is not something you get on many routes in India.
Jaipur to Kashmir by Flight
Aerial Distance: Approximately 1,050 km Flight Time: 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours Airports: Jaipur International (JAI) to Sheikh ul-Alam International Srinagar (SXR)
Flying is the fastest way to cover the travel distance to Kashmir from Jaipur. IndiGo, Air India and SpiceJet all fly this route. Some flights go direct while others stop briefly in Delhi.
Flight Options
| Route Type | Duration |
|---|---|
| Direct Flight | ~1 hr 45 min |
| Via Delhi | ~3 to 4 hours |
Book 3 to 4 weeks ahead minimum. June through September and December through January are packed months and fares spike hard during those windows.
One thing most people miss: Srinagar airport has very strict security checks. Keep a valid government photo ID in your hand luggage, not buried in a bag.
Jaipur to Kashmir by Train
No direct train connects Jaipur to Srinagar yet. The Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link is still under construction as of 2025. So the train journey works in two stages. Stage one is the train from Jaipur to Jammu Tawi, covering roughly 580 to 600 km. Stage two is the road journey from Jammu to Srinagar, another 300 km.
Trains Running from Jaipur to Jammu Tawi
| Train | Departs Jaipur | Reaches Jammu | Time Taken |

Jammu to Srinagar: The Road Section
From Jammu, NH-44 takes you up through the mountains to Srinagar. The Banihal Tunnel is the highlight of this stretch. Instead of crossing over the high Banihal Pass the old way, you drive straight through the mountain. Saves a couple of hours and cuts out a lot of the hairpin bend drama.
Distance from Jammu to Srinagar: 300 km Time: 6 to 8 hours Options: JKSRTC bus, shared taxi or a private cab
Total distance from Jaipur to Kashmir via train and road combined comes to around 880 to 900 km over 18 to 22 hours. If saving money matters more than saving time, this is your route.
Jaipur to Kashmir by Road (Self Drive or Cab)
Total Route Length: 1,120 to 1,200 km Driving Time:
20 to 24 hours not counting your overnight stop
This is the trip that people talk about for years after. Seriously. The Rajasthan stretch is wide open roads and dry golden fields. Punjab is green and fast. Then the hills begin and the temperature starts dropping. By the time you come out of the Banihal Tunnel and Srinagar valley spreads out below you, the whole drive feels worth it.
Recommended Route from Jaipur to Srinagar by Car Jaipur to Delhi to Ambala to Jalandhar to Pathankot to Jammu to Banihal Tunnel to Srinagar.

| Delhi to Ambala | ~200 km | NH 44 |
| Ambala to Jalandhar | ~130 km | NH 44 |
| Jalandhar to Jammu | ~190 km | NH 44 |
| Jammu to Srinagar | ~300 km | NH 44 via Banihal |
| Total | ~1,100 km |
Practical 2 Day Plan
:
Day 1: Leave Jaipur by 4 AM. Drive to Delhi, Ambala, Jalandhar and Jammu. Sleep in Jammu overnight.
Day 2: Start early from Jammu. Drive through the Banihal Tunnel. Reach Srinagar by early afternoon.
Things to Keep in Mind on the Road: Leave Jaipur early on Day 1 so you reach Jammu before dark. Night driving on the Jammu-Srinagar stretch is genuinely not recommended. The mountain curves are unpredictable and road visibility drops fast after sunset.
Before starting Day 2 check the highway status on jktrafficpolice.gov.in. The Jammu-Srinagar road can close without warning due to landslides or snow depending on the season.
Carry enough cash. Once you get past Jammu, ATMs become few and far between.
Jaipur to Kashmir by Bus
Route Length: 1,100 km plus Total Time: 28 to 36 hours with connections
No single direct bus runs the full Jaipur to Srinagar stretch. But connecting your way through is very doable and is popular with budget travelers.
How It Works –
The most common way is Jaipur to Delhi by Rajasthan Roadways or a private Volvo, then an overnight JKSRTC or Volvo bus from Delhi to Jammu, then a shared taxi or JKSRTC bus for the final leg from Jammu to Srinagar.
Alternatively, some travelers go from Jaipur to Pathankot and then Pathankot to Srinagar by shared taxi.
| Leg | Operator | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Jaipur to Delhi | RSRTC or Private | 5 to 6 hours |
| Delhi to Jammu | JKSRTC or Volvo | 9 to 11 hours |
| Jammu to Srinagar | JKSRTC or Shared Taxi | 6 to 8 hours |
| Total | 20 to 25 hours |

Jammu vs Kashmir: The Distance Difference
Many travelers get confused between Jammu and Kashmir. They are two separate regions inside the same Union Territory and the distances are quite different.
Jaipur to Jammu by road is around 580 to 600 km and takes 8 to 10 hours by car. Jaipur to Srinagar which sits in the Kashmir Valley is around 1,120 km and takes 20 to 22 hours.
If your goal is Dal Lake, Gulmarg or Pahalgam, your destination is Srinagar. Jammu is simply where you stop when traveling by train or road before pushing further into the valley.

Best Time to Go: Jaipur to Kashmir by Season
| Season | Months | Experience |
|---|---|---|
| Spring | March to April | Srinagar Tulip Garden in full bloom, light crowds |
| Summer | May to September | Green valleys, 10 to 25 degrees, roads fully open |
| Autumn | October to November | Chinar trees turn gold, quieter than summer |
| Winter | December to February | Heavy snow, skiing in Gulmarg, frozen Dal Lake |
June through August is peak season. Book flights and accommodation well ahead during these months. Road travelers should be careful in January and February. The Jammu-Srinagar highway can close for hours or even days due to snowfall and landslides. Always check highway conditions before starting that stretch.
Before You Leave: Practical Checklist
Indian citizens do not need an Inner Line Permit for Srinagar, Gulmarg or Pahalgam. Carry a valid government photo ID because security checkposts appear at multiple points along the route. Check jktrafficpolice.gov.in before driving the Jammu-Srinagar section. Mobile internet can be slow or restricted in some areas on certain days. Carry enough cash since card payments are unreliable in smaller mountain towns.

Direct flights take around 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours. If your flight connects through Delhi, add another 1.5 to 2 hours for the layover and second leg.
No direct train exists to Srinagar in 2025. The closest major station is Jammu Tawi. From Jammu you take a road journey of around 300 km through the Banihal Tunnel to reach Srinagar. Total time for both legs combined is 18 to 22 hours.
Most travelers split the drive over two days. Day 1 covers Jaipur to Jammu and Day 2 covers Jammu to Srinagar through the Banihal Tunnel. Driving non-stop would technically take 20 to 24 hours but attempting the mountain section in darkness is not recommended.
Start on NH 48 from Jaipur to Delhi then continue on NH 44 through Ambala, Jalandhar, Pathankot and Jammu before taking the final stretch to Srinagar via the Banihal Tunnel. Roads are well maintained throughout and the tunnel eliminates the most difficult mountain section.

The Ridge and Mall Road, Jakhu Temple, Kufri, Chail, Naldehra, the Viceregal Lodge and Chadwick Falls are the main draws. Kufri and Chail are short drives from town and worth adding a day for. The Viceregal Lodge offers guided tours on most days.
